The 7th-grade Trojans traveled southwest to Greenfield Tuesday evening and defeated the host Cougars in three sets in an HHC match 25-15, 15-25, 15-10 to improve to 9-1 in regular season play and 1-1 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Addy Bass led New Castle in serving with six aces and recorded a kill; Akiyah Turner had four aces and three kills; Ali Barber tallied three aces and three kills; and Eleesia Coleman recorded three aces, two kills and two digs for her team.

Also for the Trojans, Kaitlyn Cunningham served three aces and had two digs; Lydia Razor added one dig; and Imani Minton had two service aces.

The NCMS volleyball teams traveled to Pendleton Heights Wednesday evening for another conference match.

The Trojan 8th-graders ventured to Greenfield Tuesday night and defeated the host Cougars in straight sets 25-16, 25-18.

It was a great all-around team effort for New Castle, as it received multiple contributions from multiple players both on the front line and from the service line.

Leading the way for the Trojans in kills was Cadence Armacost with 10. She was followed by Emma Harris with eight, Marley Fraszier with three and Makayla Flynn and Naomi Baker with one apiece. New Castle’s hitters benefited from Alana Orr’s 17 assists in the match.

The Trojans also had a good night at the net blocking with Harris and Fraszier both tallying 1.5 blocks each.

From the service line, New Castle was led by Armacost with five aces, Orr with three, Fraszier and Carmen O’Farrow with two apiece, and Kyndra Sims also with two.

The Trojans traveled to Pendleton Heights Wednesday evening.

Pendleton Heights 2, New Castle 1 (8th)

The 8th grade Trojans made the trek west on Ind. 38 Wednesday evening to play the host Arabians in a HHC match.

In a back-and-forth contest that saw multiple big swings in momentum, New Castle absorbed a tough loss to Pendleton in three sets 21-25, 25-11, 3-15.

The Trojan girls fought hard in the first set but came up short, rallied back and won big in the second set, but fell in the third set after the hosts went on a nine-point run to open it.

Statistical leaders for New Castle were Cadence Armacost with 11 kills and four aces; Emma Harris with three kills and four aces; Makayla Flynn with two kills; Alana Orr with three aces and 14 assists; and Marley Fraszier with two kills and three aces.

The Trojans were back in the practice gym Thursday seeking to get better after the loss and looking forward to next week when they will close out their season with games against Selma and Yorktown.
